Part 6 - Empowerment: Evolving Through Transition and Leaving Your Legacy
Highlight: This article includes questions to ponder regarding “What is my legacy?” Learn how to empower yourself. You are 100% in control.
One of the most emotional times of my life was when my dad passed away. I am fortunate to have learned so much from my strong family upbringing which lives on today. Mom and Dad taught us all well. From Mom we learned strength, courage and independence. From Dad we learned hard work, imagination and the importance of La Familia (family) and La Cultura (culture). We learned from Dad’s leadership as he was a pillar in the community. He was a positive influence in La Familia Garza’s lives and all those he came in contact with. He was a true humanitarian, and his mantras, “Be Positive”, “YOU CAN DO IT” and “Sí Se Puede” continue in our lives today.
I remember one time he told me, “If you are going to do something, do it with enthusiasm and passion!” This is so true. I thank Mom and Dad for being such great teachers, mentors and role models. I thank my parents for the wonderful La Azteca-hot tortilla effect, being true to my values, La Familia and La Cultura, and forever empowering me to live a life that is evolving into the best that I can be.
You are in control of your destiny. You decide every day what choices you will make, positive or negative. You are the CEO of YOU!
This poem is one of my favorites. I used it as part of diversity and inclusion training for many years and it is relevant today:
“Watch your thoughts, they become words.
Watch your words, they become actions.
Watch your actions, they become habits.
Watch your habits, they become character.
Watch your character, it becomes your destiny.”
